This approx. 40 x 60" Movie Item:
THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE ~ U.S. RELEASE POSTER NSS# 68/187 ~ UNITED ARTISTS PICTURES ~ 1968
This large and strikingly dramatic poster is in Good / Very Good Condition. Some general corner, edge and light surface wear and tack/staple holes in all four corners. There's a notable chip at the top left edge that approx 7 1/2" wide and up to 2 1/2" deep, party into the red border. There are several approx 1" clean tears in the border with no paper loss, some fingerprinting at the top right (gold) area. Three vertical tears in the bottom edge measure approx. 1, 2 and 3" and have been repaired on the back with tape. An approx 12" light horizontal crease line at the center. Like most posters of this size, it is printed on extra-heavy glossy poster stock. It has always been ROLLED - never folded.
The arresting poster from cult-director TONY RICHARDSON's slyly ANTI- (VIETNAM) WAR period war drama uses a low gloss gold background for a great pale amber line image of the film's embracing stars DAVID HEMMINGS and VANESSA REDGRAVE. A powerful triple-exposure image of HEMMINGS wildly charging into battle is progressively drained of color, subliminally revealing the fate of the 600 charging soldiers.
Line-drawn character/star images are included at the bottom: TREVOR HOWARD , VANESSA REDGRAVE , JOHN GIELGUD , HARRY ANDREWS , JILL BENNETT and DAVID HEMMINGS. Directed by TONY RICHARDSON.
