WHO'S MINDING THE MINT? ~ U.S. Half-Sheet Poster NSS# 67/244 -~ COLUMBIA PICTURES ~ 1967
This RARE-SIZE poster - featuring illustration by famed MAD MAGAZINE cartoonist and movie poster artist JACK RICKARD - is in Very Good / Excellent condition. With some edge wear and light surface wear ; staple or tack holes in all four corners ; approx. 1" of angled tape residue at the bottom left corner ; an approx. 1" horizontal tear in the right center (border) edge and an a 1" vertical tear in the top center (border) edge, with both tears arrested on the poster's back with small pieces of archival tape ; a few light surface creases, visible in the green title balloon. Printed on glossy, heavy poster stock, it has always been ROLLED or stored flat - never folded.
Rarely-offered in this size, the typically-skillful JACK RICKARD artwork offers a great comic collage of movie action: water and cash flow from an open US TREASURY MINT vault, while all the stars are pictured in brilliant characatures, manning a leaky boat that bobs in the water: JIM HUTTON and VICTOR BUONO paddle ; DOROTHY PROVINE , wearing a tutu, bails water ; JACK GILFORD scoops up cash ; WALTER BRENNAN cuddles a puppy while MILTON BERLE , dressed as George Washington, JOEY BISHOP , in a Boy Scouts uniform and Gilligan's Island star BOB DENVER , dressed as an Ice-Cream Man, all pose and wave.
Famed MAD MAGAZINE Cartoonist and magazine and poster artist JACK RICKARD (1932 - 1983) created some terrific, memorable "Mad" images and delightful movie posters, including The Pink Panther (1964) ; Mad Magazine's UP THE ACADEMY ; Who's Minding The Mint? and The Private Navy of Sergeant O'Farrell.
